Drawing designs of plants,
animals and patterns has been a passion for as long as I can
remember. I recall lying on my parents verandah as a young
child, with a graph book and a box of colouring-in pencils, happily
creating patterns and doodles.
Design is for me, the very essence of human
creativity. It is the drive within us, that not only recreates what
we see (like cameras) but seeks to alter, transform and to
enhance our life experience.
I have a great love for the medium of ink and
pen. There is something in the clarity, conciseness and crispness of
ink that forces a draughtsman mind and hand into a closer
relationship. It is a medium that does not forgive lack of
forethought, doubt or indecision.
As artists and designers, we share in a great
legacy bequeathed to us by all the creative individuals that have
gone before us. This generous contribution, necessitates that we who
have received so much, also contribute generously. This collection
of designs and motifs may be downloaded for your inspiration and
personal use. My hope is that you in turn become enthused by design.
Another passion of mine is Painting. I work
mostly in acrylic, but also enjoy watercolours. Painting is one of those fabulous
activities that you can do while keeping a conversation with
yourself or another. It even leaves you enough mental room to listen
to good music. One can gather from this statement that painting is a
relaxing activity. Although I paint different genre, I am
particularly fond of painting interiors, as it allows for the
dedicated observation needed to execute richly detailed paintings,
but without the distractions of the weather, light changes and the
odd interfering insect. Most of my paintings are in a warm, rich and
jewel-like colouring. This palette and fine detailing, necessitates
the viewers of my paintings, having to come in close. My paintings
thus become invitations to intimacy where the viewer discovers my personal
symbolism.
